Queenslanders’ perceptions of science

We have commissioned research into Queenslanders’ perceptions and attitudes to science on three occasions since 2016.

Kantar Public conducted the studies which involved a 10-minute online survey of approximately 1200 residents, aged 18 years and over, spread across Queensland.

Some of the key findings of the Queenslanders’ perceptions and attitudes towards science report 2023 (PDF, 1.2MB) are:

  • Most Queenslanders (four in five) agreed that science is critical for the Queensland economy.
  • Seven in ten Queenslanders would encourage their child to pursue a career in science.
  • Only one in ten feel the amount of science events and activities in their area is adequate; the majority feel there is not enough events/activities available.
  • One in five Queenslanders could name a Queensland scientist or scientific discovery; of these, around half mentioned a discovery.
